Round 8
Friday, May 9th
Sydney vs Hawthorn, at ANZ Stadium 7:50pm
Sydney is coming off 3 wins in a row coming into this game
but are underdogs at home against the powerhouse Hawthorn. Franklin and Tippet
are in and many are questioning how they’re going to work up forward. Their
midfielders and small forwards need to step it up and help deliver clean ball
to their talls if they’re any chance of beating the hawks. Hawthorn are consistently
kicking ridiculously high scores and aren’t looking at stopping. Look for quick
movement from their backline when they mop up after Sydney’s talls.
Tip: Hawthorn to cover the line -14.5 Points @ $1.92. With
the Hawks being in devastating form this year it’s really hard to tip against
them, and this is a line they should cover.
Saturday, May 10th
Port Adelaide vs Fremantle, at Adelaide Oval 1:40pm
Port had another impressive win last week against GWS, they
had patches of brilliance but in the end held off the gallant Giants. They’re
looking very well rounded at the moment with Schulz leading the charge with 24
goals and leading the Coleman at this early stage of the year. Fremantle had a
tough derby win last week and its obviously showing with the withdrawal of a
couple of key backs in McPharlin and Dawson. Pav and Sandi have to step it up
again to upset Port at home.
Tip: Port to cover the line -11.5 Points @ $1.92. This is a
very attractive line especially with the form Port have been in. It’s been
backed in from -9.5 points to -11.5 points in the last 2 days.
Brisbane vs Essendon, at the Gabba 4:40pm
Brisbane come off another disappointing performance and
desperately need to start showing something again at home. They have some handy
inclusions with Brown, Maguire and Hanley so hopefully they can give the
Bombers a run for their money. Having just scraped through with a win last
week, Essendon are still looking out of sorts and need to turn that around
quickly. Fletcher has been their best player this year so far, surely if a 39
year can contribute the way he does the younger guys can back him up as well.
Tip: Under 171.5 @ $1.88. This is a fairly high line for
these two underperforming teams. Hopefully a tight scrappy game ensues and we
come home with the win.
Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs, at the MCG, 7:40pm
Melbourne are coming off a spirited win against the Crows
last week and are only looking forward to producing the same effort this week. Viney
being free to play this week will only boost the morale of the Melbourne
players to overpower the Dogs. The Doggies had to pick themselves up this week
after a disappointing loss last week. Being in games right down to the wire is encouraging
but they need to start going the extra mile and finish games off.
Tip: Melbourne to win @ $2.95. Melbourne are at rough odds
but that’s good for a bit of value and hopefully get us some handy money.
Sunday, May 11th
West Coast vs GWS
Giants, at Patersons Stadium 4:40pm
West Coast should’ve won again last week but their kicking
in front of goal cost them another 4 points. Looking into this game they’d hope
to put a bit more scoreboard pressure on the Giants. The Giants on the
otherhand have been kicking plenty of goals but the problem is that their
opposition is doing the same thing. With Cameron out, this might stem their
goal flow and options up forward a little bit.
Tip: Under 185.5 @ $1.88. I liked this or the Giants line,
this should be a tight, tough match that could go either way.
Monday, May 12th
St Kilda vs Carlton, at Etihad Stadium, 7:20pm
Where did St Kilda go last week? Getting flogged by Hawthorn
at the G will do plenty of damage to their confidence. With their skipper being
well held the last few games he needs to show his team how to stand up under
pressure and perform. With Carlton in the same boat as the Saints, they also
need to show their supporters some on field performances worth seeing.
Hopefully the inclusion of Yarran can generate some run in this team that looks
extremely slow.
Tip: Under 179.5 @ $1.88. With both teams battling after embarrassing
performances last round, there should be more of a emphasis on the defensive
side of things. This is a big total points score and looks like the safest bet
of the day.
1/2 to start the weekend, lets hope to get a few more positive results over the weekend. Happy punting.
